Heather Burrell is a first year medical student at Duke. She is from
Clifton, Virginia and attended Williams College, where she majored in
Chemistry. Heather studied abroad for a semester in Santiago, Chile,
where she studied medical
spanish and the Chilean healthcare system. She also organized and
participated in a medical service trip to Nicaragua during her senior
year of college. Heather enjoys being able to communicate with patients
in Spanish and is looking forward to using these
skills to facilitate medical care by the treatment team in Honduras.
Heather and Kun Wei will be conducting a research project titled "A
Qualitative Survey of Trash Disposal in Rural Honduran Communities”
sponsored by DukeMed Engage during the trip.
